OPAL brings several sources of information into one farm management system — each with its own strengths and limits, which OPAL shows clearly rather than hiding.

SATELLITE IMAGERY

Sentinel satellite data shows changes in crop growth, stress, moisture, and field variation — patterns you won't catch from the gate or the road. Every reading comes with a clear quality flag, so you always know how much to trust it.

RADAR SOIL MOISTURE

Radar sees through cloud and dust to estimate soil moisture when normal imagery can't — a layer of information for irrigation and field monitoring you wouldn't otherwise have.

WEATHER AND WATER USE

OPAL uses weather data to estimate crop water demand and irrigation timing — sharper planning where water is expensive, scarce, or hard to apply evenly.

FIELD RECORDS

OPAL becomes more useful when it is used as a farm record, not just as a viewer — crop type, sowing dates, irrigation events, grazing pressure, and observations all sharpen its estimates over time. The value isn't in one satellite image; it's in combining field evidence, farmer knowledge, and seasonal history.

Same field, two views: the NDMI layer highlights relative differences in crop and vegetation moisture, helping identify areas that may be experiencing water stress. Reference imagery can be switched on to show the latest Sentinel-2 image beneath the analysis, making it easier to relate those patterns to the field and surrounding land. It is useful for orientation and visual checking, but the NDMI layer remains the main analytical view and does not require the imagery to be displayed.
